NJ Clergy and Elected Officials Seek Fair Wages for Newark Liberty Airport Workers

Location: Liberty International Airport, Newark, NJ

Event Date: Jan 15, 2018 (Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday)

As part of a national demonstration, workers part of the Service Employees International Union converged at Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday afternoon to rally for a $15-per-hour minimum wage — which is what New York airport workers make, organizers say — and to advocate for fairer working standards, according to numerous reports. (source: https://www.app.com/story/news/crime/jersey-mayhem/2016/11/29/workers-protest-15-minimum-wage-newark-airport/94619784/) . In New Jersey, the minimum wage for 2018 is $8.60 per hour, compared to $8.38 in 2017.

Rev. Steven Wilson, Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, (far right of pic) marched alongside leaders from Faith in NJ, the NJ Clergy Coalition for Justice., elected officials, organizers and US Senator Cory Booker to raise the consciousness about the injustice happening at Newark Liberty Airport. These workers are working under some difficult and terrible condition. Most only make $10.10 an hour while these airport executives make $2,100.00 an hour. Yes, you read it correctly, $2,100.00! Some of these workers don’t make enough to pay their rent and many struggle to provide for their families. Some people to work up to two jobs and still not make enough money to survive.
