Reverend Steven Allen Wilson, Sr.  a native of Newark, NJ.  is the son of Ernest and Lillie Wilson. He has one sister, Stephanie. He was baptized and joined St. Matthew Baptist Church at an early age under the pastorate of the late Rev. Robert S. Kelsey, being involved in the Youth Ministry, Sunshine Choir and the Sunday school which served as his early instruction in the faith.

Rev. Wilson attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he received formal training and a more diverse exposure to ministry through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International, under the discipleship of Campus Director Marcus Anthony. He was an active member, first as a youth leader and then as associate staff, helping in the development of programs and outreach, leading small groups, was an occasional speaker and helped develop a campus ministry at Tuskegee University in Alabama. He was also an active member of the Southwest Christian Fellowship Church in Atlanta under the leadership of the Rev. Richard Berry.

Feeling a love for the things of God and a call to full-fledged ministry, Rev. Wilson changed his major from biology/premed to Religion and Philosophy and attended Kean College in Union, NJ. There he was an active participant with the Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship on campus.

After graduation Rev. Wilson interned as assistant director of the Cornerstone Youth Ministry at the Falls Episcopal Church in Falls Church, VA.  It was in this capacity, under the direction of the Rev. Jeff Taylor, that he further received formal training in youth ministry and developed relationships with prominent persons in the Christian community at large and ministries such as; Young Life, the Urban Alternative and renewed his relations with Campus Crusade. He also had opportunities to give counseling.

In May 2001, Rev. Wilson completed his academic studies, acquiring the Master of Divinity degree in Church History and Theology from the Drew University theological School in Madison, NJ, graduating with honors. (Cum Laude)

Rev. Wilson came to acknowledge his formal call to the ministry due to the inspirational mentoring of his pastor, Rev. David Ford, Sr. Rev. Wilson was ordained into the gospel ministry in the summer of 2014. He has worked as director of SOLD OUT (the church’s youth ministry), Men’s Fellowship, Christian Education Department, Sunday school, bible study and director of the Vacation Bible School.

His personal constitution, “to make the gospel a reality in the lives of people, especially youth”, has its roots in a scripture that he learned from his mentor and discipler, Marcus Anthony:

“And the things that you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, that they may be able to teach others also.”

II Timothy 2:2

To this end Rev. Wilson has dedicated himself to answering the questions and objections people have that hinder them from having an intimate relationship with God.  Talks that he has given and subjects of interest include: “Blacks in the Bible”, “Classic Defenses for the Faith”, “How the Bible was Put Together”, Comparative Religions, Church History and the Historical Development of Theology.

Rev. Wilson was married to the lovely former Ms. Dana George in 2002. They currently reside in Edison with their children, Steven, Jr. and Noelle.  Rev. Wilson is an adjunct professor of humanities at several colleges including Montclair State University and Hudson Community College.  Rev. Wilson also served as the 1st Vice President of Area II, for the Congress of Christian Education of the Middlesex Central Baptist Association.

In July 2017 Rev. Wilson was appointed the interim pastor of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Jersey City, New Jersey.  Following the lead of the Lord’s call, the congregation of Mt. Calvary elected Rev. Wilson as the senior pastor in January of 2018 and he was installed in April of that year.
